More than 1.2 million current account holders have switched to a new provider in the first year of a new initiative aiming to take the hassle out of swapping banks. A total of 1,203,334 switches took place between the start of October last year and the end of September this year, a 22% increase on the same period a year earlier, according to the Payments Council, which is overseeing the service.
